Welcome to North Carolina Greyhound Adoption Promotion -- NCGAP for short. We promote the adoption of retired racing greyhounds as pets. Our focus is to raise awareness of these wonderful animals as companions through public outreach, programs, publications and events. We encourage people to consider a greyhound when they think about adding a new member to their family. To this end we provide information on North Carolina adoption groups.
We are not an adoption agency, rather we provide the link between potential adopters and area adoption groups. Our leadership and advisers we have many years of experience in greyhound welfare, adoption, and placing dogs. We are here to help and support you as you transition your dog from track to home.
Our board meetings are normally held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm at William's Gourmet Kitchen near 54 & 55 in Durham, NC. Check our calendar to see the location. Our meetings are open to all interested parties. You can reach us by phone at 877-85-NCGAP (877-856-2427) or by emailing us at email@example.com.
NCGAP Fall Picnic!
Saturday November 14th, 2015 from 11 am to 2 pm Parker's Creek, Jordan Lake
Come take a stroll in the woods, enjoy the fall foliage, and cozy up with your favorite dogs in front of the fire!
We'll be back at shelter #6, for a potluck picnic with lots of room for everyone & their dogs. We'll have a fire in the fireplace, hot coals in the grill, bottled water and ice in the cooler, and maybe a few biscuits on hand for the doggies!
Please bring something to grill, a dish to share, and a bed for your pup. Plates, tableware, & bottled water will be provided. Electricity is available if you need it. We'll be there rain or shine - the shelter is covered.
New this year: a Greyhound Swap Meet! Got some gently used or excess dog or Greyhound stuff you aren't using anymore? Something you'd like to see go to a good home -- just not yours? Old collars, coats that don't fit, knick-knacks that no longer match your decor, dog shampoo you prefer not to use on Fido, but would be fine on Fidette...you get the idea. No money to change hands, just swap it for something else, or let it go. Any leftover items will be donated to area adoption groups, as appropriate.
This is a money-free event. There is no admission fee to the park, and no event fee. Just come and enjoy a relaxing day with the dogs. (All Greyhound-friendly breeds are welcome, but any canine resembling a squeaky toy should probably stay at home this time!)
The Park address is not listed on any GPS system, so if you attempt to use that method it will misdirect you. Follow these directions: Jordan Lake State Recreation Area is located in Chatham County, 21 miles southwest of Raleigh off US 64, and can be reached via NC 751 or US 15-501 from Durham and Chapel Hill.
The entrance to Parker's Creek is on US 64. If traveling west on US 64, go over the bridge on Jordan Lake & the entrance is on the right. If traveling east on US 64, the Parker's Creek entrance is the first left after seeing the lake. For additional information, see the Jordan Lake web site, or Google Maps (after turning at the Parker's Creek entrance, follow the signs to shelter #6).
